Daily Notes
Today was another day of excitement in the world of mortgage and home purchasing. We have the bulk of the money we need to purchase our home, but when RBC updated their mortgage amount we now need to come up with about $4000 CDN to finalize the deal! We have the money, no problem, but the issue is getting it to Canada quick enough as wire transfers and such take time!
We spent about 3 hours from noon today at the RBC branch on Ryan Road trying to figure out how to get this $4000 amount. We went through all our US based credit cards, but they would only give us a certain amount as a cash advance. In the end Aubrey, the branch manager, talked to Matthew, who initiated the mortgage, and they gave us the amount through some “special service” that is available to them, but not widely publicized. At any rate, long story short, late this afternoon we drove, bank draft in hand, over to the lawyers on the other side of the bridge. Darryl Robbins met with us personally, probably because it was Friday afternoon, and after handing him the bank draft, our mortgage was finalized!
The lawyer mentioned that Kelly O’Brien’s Restaurant and Pub is the place young kids go to party and have a late night out. It’s night really a club, but you can get a beer and they have pool tables… 🙂 Welcome to Courtenay!
He also mentioned that you can catch and release salmon all year round, but can only keep them during salmon season. Trout, on the other hand, is very plentiful, and can be caught for food whenever you want. There is also no license required to fish trout. He mentioned a lake near the museum that the city stocks with fish, and would be a good place to start.
My wife and I went to BlackFin Pub overlooking the Comox Harbor to celebrate our achievement of the mortgage finally being finalized. A nice place overlooking the harbor (see photo to the left). We both had fish & chips, with a “Sizzler” appetizer and “Mud Cake” for dessert (see photo to the right). I also had a beer.
I should have been fine with only one beer, but I thought it is better “safe than sorry”, so my wife drove home. We had such a great dinner that we needed to pick up something equally great for the kids? What you ask? A fine dining experience? Cavier? Pheasant Under Glass? Nah… Something the kids will really like! So, we stopped off at McDonald’s on the way home for:
- Two Happy Meals with chocolate milk for Bobby.
- Lemonade with two cheeseburgers for Katie.
