Daily Notes

We were all up early and to the ferry doc around 6 am (see photo to the right). We wanted to make sure that we could get on it as we don’t have reservations. We are 3rd on the wait list! Fingers crossed!

I had to go to this little cabin on site and fill papers to “export” the van from the US. The guy who helped me fill out papers was born here, but he misses the warmth of the southern US. He told me that his Korean wife does not want to move south because of the “pests” there. I assuming she meant animals?

We made the first ferry! We could relax and have breakfast on board. They were serving up “Shirley Cafe” sandwiches so we had to have some of those. Our son had boiled eggs. There were no seats for us to sit down as a family…the ferry was packed, but we managed to get a seat here and there. When we arrived it took a long time to depart the ferry, and also a long time to fill out the paperwork to import the van! We had to fill out a form online, email it to the agent, and he printed it out.

After leaving the ferry we had a very short tour of Victoria as we were eager to get “home”! We had lunch in Mill Bay. I had the nachos, my wife had the perogies, our son had pineapple pizza, and our daughter enjoyed a bagel with cream cheese.

As we drove up the Vancouver Island coast we stopped off at the Tim Horton’s near the hotel with the water slide that our son loved so much on our first trip to Vancouver Island. He had 10 Timbits, my wife had an apple donut, and I had a “Double Double” with a blueberry muffin.

We drove to Courtenay on the “Real Highway” and stopped off at a gas station near the ferry to Denman Island for supplies. Some 3% milk, and “fun dough balls” for the kids. Later on today we stopped at Black Creek Cafe for groceries and I picked up some Alexander Keith’s beer (see photo to the left). A bit of a reward for me to relax after such a long drive!!!

We drove by our new house, and the Huband street elementary school so that our son could see it. As we took a side street we met a woman who was walking her small pony named “Cooper”.

Next up was our Air B&B just north of Courtenay. It was owned by British owners. The man runs a brewery and his wife manages the Air B&B. They have 3 kids, two daughters and a younger son. They also have goats and a trampoline.

The people who rented the Air B&B room just below us were complaining that we were too loud… 🙂
